Concrete block driveways using manufactured concrete blocks which are available in a range of colours and shapes. They are coloured during manufacture and may be textured to resemble natural stone; a hard wearing and reasonably priced solution.

Clay block paving is a popular choice. This is also available in a range of colours with the advantage that as the colours are natural and determined by the way the blocks are fired they won’t fade over time.

Stone blocks using natural stone is not only a highly durable solution, it also looks great. While traditionally we have used British stone, a cheaper option is to use Indian sandstone which is available in a range of colours that will never fade.

Gravel driveways are a lower cost option and you may choose from a wide range of materials including natural gravels, shingles and pebbles. They are durable and easy to maintain.

Asphalt driveways are the really budget solution and a practical choice, though they aren’t as attractive as the other options and may be damaged by any oil or petrol spills.

Poured concrete driveways are a further option. While they tended to be featureless, they can be coloured and textured.

As your driveway will need to be able to support the weight of your car and other vehicles, it will require stronger foundations than a patio. While this might cost a little more, the investment is worth it, as it will last you for many years into the future without sinking or cracking and will maintain its appearance.
